Having trouble picking your first dance song or the playlist for your reception?Just watch the movie ‘Wedding Planner’ with Jennifer Lopez and just by listening to the radio together you will find the right song!
Some couples come into the venue knowing exactly what song they would like as their wedding song. However, some come into the venue looking like lost little puppies when we ask them about their playlist.
Choosing what songs to play at your reception can be a big stressor in the wedding planning process. Trying to please every single one of your guest’s music preferences is hard. You have the millennial generation mixed with the baby boomers. You have a couple different paths to choose from when selecting and creating your reception playlist. You can match the style of music to your theme. Whether your wedding has a country theme or hip-hop modern them, your DJ can find songs to match any type of theme you have. Another path you can take is a fun and interesting take. Select a playlist with songs where everyone knows the matching dance. For example, Electric Slide, Macarena, Cot-eyed Joe, Congo Line, and more! Going this route, your guests will have a hard time seating still in their seats because they will just want to get up and dance.
Another question that is asked a lot is, Do you have your DJ incorporate slow songs? Well, it depends on what type of environment you are trying to set for you guests. Do you want your wedding to be up beat 24/7 or would you like to add some sentimental moments to your wedding. Let the odds ever be in your favor.
My one suggestion for you is only pick a hand full of songs that you want your DJ to certainly play. Then leave it up to the DJ to fill in the blanks and let him do his job. If you found a decent DJ I am sure he won’t let you down.
Another tip: If you want your DJ to announce your bridal party, make sure you provide them with a list of names in the right order along with the corresponding song you want him to play for their entrance. Doing this ahead of time will make your entrance run much smoother and your DJ will greatly appreciate it!
