Should we have kids?

The answer is yes! The real question is ‘Should we have kids at our wedding?’ Youngsters at weddings can be challenging or they can add a special touch to your big day. A lot of our weddings at Hollywood Venue include children in unique and traditional ways. We have had grandmothers as the flower girls and we have had the children be apart of the ceremony or as ushers.

Here are 7 ways you can incorporate children into your wedding

Flower Girl

The flower girl always gives the guests a little chuckle as she walks down the aisle. We have had flower girls walk right now the aisle forgetting the flowers, we have had some just dump the flowers out all at once; and we have had some who shy away and run backwards. At Hollywood Venue we have seen it all! We recommend you assign someone to help the children if they are going to apart of the ceremony. In addition, purchase a book about being a flower girl and give it to her to read before the ceremony.

Another idea, instead of having little girls be the flowers, we had one couple that decided to have their grandmothers be the flower girls. We thought it was really cute and added a special touch to their wedding. It was also a memory for the grandmothers as well.

Ring Bearer

Ring Bearers can be tricky because you don’t want him to lose the rings. Once those rings are lost there is no turning back. We always recommend if the ring bearer is on the younger side, to have a groomsmen hold the real rings and have the ring bearer walk down the aisle with ring pops, or fake rings.

Ushers

We have hosted several weddings were they have children as ushers. Whether they are directing guests to their seats or collecting their gifts or greeting them as they walk in. If you have children that you want to involve in your wedding that are on the older side, giving them the position of an usher will make them feel honored.

Have them run a refreshments stand

This is a unique idea that would be really cute. I am sure there was a time when you were young when you opened a lemonade stand at the top of your driveway. Have your refreshment stand as a lemonade stand and have children run it. Guests will certainly grab a cup of lemonade while they are waiting for your ceremony to start. It is a great addition to a hot summer wedding.

Props down the aisle

We recently had a wedding where the bride and grooms’ son was pulled down the aisle in a wagon. They decorated the wagon to match their décor and theme. This is a great way to incorporate small children as the flower girl or ring bearer. If they can’t walk pull them down the aisle in a wagon carrying the rings.

Special dances with children

If you already have kids before marriage or it is a blended family; along with having a father-daughter dance, you can have a special dance with your daughters or sons. It will be a special moment for the both of you.

Creation of the Bouquet

This idea is one of our favorites. We haven’t seen it done yet but it’s really different and unique and it is perfect for a blended marriage. The kids are lined up down the aisle each holding a flower or two. As the bride walks down the aisle the kids hand her the flower(s) one by one. Once she reaches her future husband she will have a full bouquet in her hands made up of the flowers provided by the children.

Here are some ways to entertain the children during the reception.

Kids Corner

This is a cute idea to keep the kids busy throughout the night. Have a kid’s corner that includes a big Tic-Tac-Toe, Legos, Connect 4 and other kid friendly games. This will help your guests keep their kids out of trouble and will also allow you and your guests to enjoy yourselves and not worry about the children. One less worry!

Hula Hoop Contest

This is a cute way to get the kids involved, if there are a lot of children at your wedding. Having the DJ host a Hula Hoop contest will be a great way to get the kids engaged and having fun. In addition to get rid of their energy a little!
